2001 – 2006

  • Graduate-level college decision science curriculum is translated into 80-hour training course for middle school and high school educators.
  • First DEF summer training institute is held—an 80-hour workshop for high school math teachers.
  • Course evaluations from first DEF training for high school students indicate that decision skills can be successfully taught to this age group.
  • DEF releases the first edition of its signature publication, The Fundamentals of Making Good Decisions.
  • Partnerships are established with choice schools in Pennsylvania, Nebraska, and California, marking the start of the DEF’s whole institution decision education adoption program.
  • First training is presented for educators practicing within the juvenile justice system.
  • Five-day educators’ summer training institute is developed.
  • DEF creates its first video designed to introduce teachers, administrators, and program directors to the need for decision education.
  • Joint project with The Riekes Center for Human Enhancement (Menlo Park, Calif.) produces a teaching video featuring a high school decision adventure trip to Nepal; the video becomes a key DEF tool for introducing teachers and students to the fundamentals of good decision making.
