Angela Duckworth
Dr. Angela Duckworth, assistant professor of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, is an experienced classroom teacher and a former McKinsey consultant. Her current research focuses on individual differences, especially self-control and grit (perseverance and sustained interest in long-term goals), that predict achievement in children and adults.
She has written and co-authored numerous studies on adolescent behavior, which have appeared in publications including Psychological Science, Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Journal of Educational Psychology, Journal of Personality Assessment, Journal of Human Resources, and Annual Review of Clinical Psychology. Her most recent article, “Self-control predicts against overweight status in the transition from childhood to adolescences is in press in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine.
Dr. Duckworth holds a BA magna cum laude in Advanced Studies Neurobiology from Harvard, an MSc with distinction in Neuroscience from the University of Oxford, and an MA and PhD in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania.
